To Wanderers
A. Otwani from Castle XI
J. Ssebanja from Charity
H. Ssenyondo from Charity
M. Mujasi from Tornado
A. Kyagaba from Castle XI
S. Kisikwe from ACC

Seemingly distraught for their persistent no shows and lack of silverware in their trophy cabin for eight years, Wanderers have signed six star players to halt the bad run.

Wanderers’ last silverware was in 2002 when they lifted the National League crown. But that was also against the back-drop of enduring another winless streak as their last league titles had been secured in 1991 and 1992.

And in a bid to start the new decade with some gongs, the former giants have gone about their business in the transfer period briskly by wooing quality players ahead of the season’s big kick-off on Sunday.

National team all-rounders Jonathan Ssebanja and Henry Ssenyondo, both from second division outfit Charity CC are part of the new faces at Wanderers. The others are former U-19 international Saul Kisikwe from 2006 and 2007 league champions Africa Cricket Club (ACC), stock bowler Martin Mujasi from Tornado and the young blood of Arnold Otwani and Arthur Kyagaba, both from Castle Development XI.

“When best is an option, good is not enough. And that is why we have signed six guys to bolster our squad and chances this season. With such depth, we shall be able to compete on a daily basis,” reasoned Wanderers’ captain Denis Musali.

The six join proven talents like Arthur Ziraba, Deus Muhumuza – both with national caps and Ali Mohammed. Musali is however wary of player-snatchers. “The association should put some laws in place. Some teams wait for others to woo their players and then start offering abnormal financial incentives. It should stop,” added Musali while issuing a hands-off-my players’ statement.

Wanderers begin their season against Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs in the knockout round of the Luswata Cup on Sunday.
